A Mother Reflects

Group One 022  As a mother of adult children and a grandmother of two precious grandsons, I sometimes wish I could start all over and have much more maturity and be a little wiser.  I would be more free to let my children know that I loved them deeply, voicing this more often.  True love is visible, but it is easy to take each other for granted.

Love is complicated.  Experience has taught me that sustaining love takes time and tears, joys and sorrows; that it is based on sharing and respect for each other.  It is planning for the future and remembering the past.  The key is staying connected, committed, and in communication. [If I could do it all over again, I would show] more patience and maturity in the face of frustrations and disagreements and discipline – showing more acceptance and not expecting that perfection that belongs only to God.

I would be swift to praise and magnify their points of strength and see them through kind, living eyes, and patient eyes.  I would laugh more and see the humor in life.  I would be a better listener, as such times can be prime opportunities to show love.  I believe there is a vital relationship between listening to their questions when they are young and the extent to which they share their concerns when in their teens.

Each child is special; as we recognize their value, uniqueness, and dignity, we contribute to their becoming a responsible and compassionate person.  (17)

About

Recipe. According to Encarta, "a list of ingredients and instructions for making something." The thesaurus offers the alternate terms, "formula, guidelines, directions, steps, technique."

And what is the "something" we are aiming for here? Simply a life of robust good health in every important area - spiritual, physical, cognitive, and emotional.

To that end we offer inspirational real-life stories about PEOPLE OF FAITH AND COURAGE; menus and cooking directions meant to fuel your creative inclinations and your healthy body in the form of MUSINGS OF A MIDWESTERN FOODIE; and ADVICE FOR LIFE from the perspective of those who have lived it to maturity.
